cheese on crackers
CHEESE ON CRACKERS
grandma served me cheese on crackers
to teach me the ways of life
father bought me toys in packages
to show me love's shapes and sizes
who knew what it all meant
we were all young then anyway
with no experience of reality
who knew what it could have meant
cheese on crackers, toys in packages
young and naive, brushing it off
older and misunderstood
finally knowing what it all meant.
and how it could have been. if only
